چکیده

sunflower (helinathus annuus) is a susceptible host to the holoparasite hemp broomrape (orobanche ramosa) in central parts of iran, causing yield loss due to severe infestations. a field study was conducted in 2006 to evaluate the efficacy of glyphosate for controlling the parasitic weed hemp broomrape in sunflower. glyphosate was applied once or twice at five rates ranging from 0.075 to 0.450 kg ae ha-1. most efficient control was obtained from once or twice application of gyphosae at 0.225 and 0.350 kg ae ha-1 at both application times. there were a significant reduction in hemp broomrape dry weight at 0.225 and 0.350 kg ae ha-1 (75 and 87.5 %), respectively compared to control. glyphosate at 0.075 kg ae ha-1 was not sufficient enough to provide acceptable control, but duplicating the application of this rate provided good control of weed. nearly no hemp broomrape shoot and dry weight were measured when glyphosate was applied twice at 0.450 kg ae ha-1. however, sunflower grain yield loss (63%) resulting from glyphosate toxicity at 0.450 kg ae ha-1 was observed when applied twice, compared to its application at 0.225 kg ae ha-correspondence to: y. filizadeh, [email protected]   results showed that hemp broomrape was unable to survive after the twice application of glyphosate at 0.225 or 0.350 kg ae ha-1.

Host recognition of Orobanche cumana, the broomrape of cultivated sunflower

 Background and aims: Most of the economically relevant parasitic weeds of the Orobanchaceae have a more or less broad host spectrum within the plant family they are adapted to. The hostreleased compounds inducing their germination were identified as so-called strigolactones and represent four-ring terpenoids derived from the carotenoid metabolism. O. cumana, a fast emerging problem of sunflow...

chemical control of broomrape (orobanche aegyptiaca) in tomato (lycopersicon escolentum) by glyphosate and sulfosulfuron

for investigating of o. aegyptiaca control in tomato with sulfosulfuron and glyphosate and evaluating the efficacy, dose and time of application, some studies were conducted in 2011 at aarhus university of denmark. at first, the efficacy of sulfosulfuron (0.029, 0.147, 0.735, 3.676 and 18.378 mg per lit) and glyphosate (0.023, 0.117, 0.587, 2.935 and 14.676 µl per lit) on egyptian broomrape see...

The Eff icacy of Resistance Inducing Agents for the Control of Sunflower Broomrape (Orobanche cumana

The resistance inducing agent 1, 2, 3-Benzothiadiazole-7-carbothioic acid S-methyl ester (BTH) has been demonstrated in triggering defence reactions in crop plants against bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens but also against parasitic weeds of the genus Orobanche. In this study, pot experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions to evaluate the efficacy of different concentrations of ...

Pre-haustorial resistance to broomrape (Orobanche cumana) in sunflower (Helianthus annuus): cytochemical studies.

Sunflower broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) is a root holoparasitic angiosperm considered as one of the major constraints for sunflower production in Mediterranean areas. Breeding for resistance is regarded as the most effective, feasible, and environmentally friendly solution to control this parasite. However, the existing sources of genetic resistance are defeated by the continuous emergenc...

Increased Virulence in Sunflower Broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) Populations from Southern Spain Is Associated with Greater Genetic Diversity

Orobanche cumana Wallr. (sunflower broomrape) is a holoparasitic weed that infects roots of sunflower in large areas of Europe and Asia. Two distant O. cumana gene pools have been identified in Spain, one in Cuenca province in the Center and another one in the Guadalquivir Valley in the South. Race F has been hypothesized to have arisen by separate mutational events in both gene pools. In the G...

Some Soybean Cultivars Have Ability to Induce Germination of Sunflower Broomrape

Sunflower broomrape is a noxious parasitic weed which has caused severe damage to crop ecosystems. Trap crops can release a mixture of allelochemicals to induce the germination of sunflower broomrape. We studied the allelopathic effects of soybean on sunflower broomrape. Fourteen common soybean cultivars were grown in pots. Samples were collected from soybean plants and rhizosphere soil at five...
